PPPM from a clinic owner's perspective

An Interview with Amy O'Shannassy, Owner of Perform Physio and Pilates

In the dynamic field of physiotherapy, specialised care in areas like pregnancy and pelvic health requires not only expertise but also dedicated support and mentorship.

Today, we delve into the journey of Amy O'Shannassy, a Sports and Musculoskeletal Physio, who is the owner of Perform Physio and Pilates in Ivanhoe, VIC. Amy shares her experience with the Pregnancy and Pelvic Physio Mentoring (PPPM) service and its profound impact on her clinic's growth and the development of her team.

Amy's decision to join PPPM was driven by a vision for her clinic to expand its services to include a pregnancy and pelvic health physio. With two physiotherapists concurrently pursuing Post-Graduate Pelvic Health qualifications, Amy recognised the critical need for expert guidance and support to ensure her team's success in this specialised field. "The decision to seek out PPPM was instrumental in shaping the trajectory of our clinic's pelvic health services," Amy reflects. "As the owner, my priority was to provide my team, led by passionate individuals like myself, with the tools they needed to excel."

The impact of PPPM on Amy's team has been profound. "The greatest benefit has been witnessing the growth and enhanced confidence of my team members," Amy shares "This enhanced confidence directly translates into better outcomes for our patients," she emphasised. Moreover, Amy credits PPPM with a tangible improvement in her team's job satisfaction and loyalty within their roles. "The support provided by PPPM has been instrumental in retaining talented professionals within our clinic," she explains. "Without this invaluable mentorship, my team might have sought opportunities elsewhere."

The structured mentorship and clinical support offered by PPPM has also significantly contributed to the success and expansion of the pelvic health program at Perform. Amy also highlights the unique selling proposition that PPPM represents for her clinic to potential staff members during the hiring process. "When hiring a new Pelvic Health Physio, the fact that we invest in ongoing mentorship through PPPM has been a significant draw for top talent."

The journey that Amy has experienced stands as a testament to the power of strategic investment in staff development and specialised training—an approach that not only drives clinic growth but also fosters a profound sense of purpose and satisfaction among physio employees who want to pursue women's health as a clinical interest area. Amy concludes, "Investing in specialised mentorship and training not only benefits your business but also nurtures a culture of professional growth and excellence," she advises.

PPPM is a mentoring program designed to help clinic owners support their clinicians by mentoring them in areas they don't have expertise in. The program successfully works with both the clinician and clinic owner to build and expand their pelvic health services. The founders of PPPM also run a successful clinic and understand the importance of educating clinicians in both the clinical and non clinical aspects of treating patients.
